The Association's Purpose

The Moy Family Association is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, and educational purposes. It provides education and assistance to individuals and families who are primarily, but not necessarily, of Chinese ancestry and bear the Moy family name, regarding Chinese history, culture, and language. 

The Association's goal is to provide social support to those members assimilating into modern American culture. The Association may also, on occasion, provide individuals or families with personal support, or financial support to help them meet daily living expenses if they are unable to provide for themselves, and housing support to the extent possible. To foster better communications and interpersonal relationships between families, the Association may also sponsor dinners or other meals, picnics, and other social gatherings where members may meet, mingle, and interact with each other to discuss common issues, to learn from each other, and to otherwise engage in mutual support. The Moy Family Association is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.

In 1967 in the District of Columbia, the Moy Family Association was incorporated as a nonprofit organization consisting of various members of the Moy family. Members pooled their funds to buy a building to use for meetings, social activities, and housing for some individuals. The row house is located at 508 I Street, NW, and was thus purchased by the Moy Family Association. The money collected from the members were, over time, repaid by the association, with no mortgage or other debt encumbering the building. The building is zoned for mixed residential and commercial use under D.C. zoning regulations.
